Gion, Kyoto’s famous Geisha district, is a place not to be missed.
The washed-out planks of traditional merchant houses, gray roof and walkways covered in stone would set anyone back to its time of glory. As if they each have a long story to tell since then.
Having stayed at Seiun-An, a former house of Geisha (or Geiko in local term), taking the scenic route to and fro Gion-Shirakawa Dori was one of the anticipated moments during that few days. In some days Geiko shuffling through in her cumbersome zori sandals while in others, ladies in their sophisticated kimono would walk by. We were lucky enough to witness a pre-wedding photo shooting of Japanese couple under the beautiful sakura. That is definitely a beautiful frame to show in front of their future offspring.
