"Oden (おでん) is a Japanese winter dish consisting of several ingredients such as boiled eggs, daikon radish, konnyaku, and processed fish cakes stewed in a light, soy-flavoured dashi broth." ~Wikipedia
Most Japanese convenient stores (often called as Conbini "コンビニ") sell Oden in their simmering hot pots during winter. It is also often sold from food carts.
While Nagoya named this as 関東煮 (Kantō-ni), it is often known as guāndōngzhǔ by Taiwanese even though they share the same kanji/chinese characters and referring to the same Oden.
Can't be amazed enough with the detail Japanese has put into the menu, especially on the calories indication.
Other than these ingredients, customer can always opt for addition of mee, soba and udon along with a variety of condiments such as wasabi and mustard.
Instead of having my first Oden at Family Mart, I bought them at Lawson.
お魚団子 Fish Dumpling 120yen
ベーコン串 Bacon Skewer 120yen
餅入巾着 Mochi (Pounded Rice Cake) in Tofu Pouch 120yen
ローソンファーム大根 Lawson Farm Radish 75yen
Radish have the tendency of absorbing the essence of dashi broth and all flavours of other skewers. Hence this is the cheapest and my favourite of all!
