It is of no secret that I am currently dating an Ipohian boyfriend hence I would often travel up north to one of the many food heavens in Malaysia. Most of the time he would guide me around but it is my turn now when I received this food tasting invitation from Next Food Avenue, the revamped food court at Ipoh Parade.

Located on the 3rdfloor (same level with GSC Cinema but in opposite direction), Next Food Avenue has 26 stalls in 2 separate sections which are halal and non-halal. Upon stepping in the non-halal section we were welcomed by the hanging red lanterns along with wallpapers of red bricks and RGYB (red, green, yellow, and blue) chairs where traditional Chinese culture meets modern design.

Crispy Skin Roast Duck & Barbecued Porkby Restoran B Jing北京饭店
A typical set from Chinese BBQ stall where it consists of meat, rice and soup. There are many versions of barbecued pork but theirs cater to those who’d prefer lean meat only. Roast duck on the other hand was succulent though pairing with a crispier skin would be best.

Signature Chili Pan Meeby Facey Noodle House辣一辣
Originated since 2004 in KL, Facey Noodle House is now trying its luck at Ipoh. Here I have springy noodles topped with minced meat, deep fried anchovies and poached egg, served in a dry way alongside a bowl of sayur manis soup. I prefer to customize my bowl of spiciness by controlling the amount of dried chili, the more the better.

Hakka Yam Abacusby Restoran Noah
The name came from its resemblance to abacus beads-like shape and the fact that it was made of yam dough. Here, it was stir-fried with marinated mushroom and parsley. I had no complain on the taste and texture but perhaps a bigger helping?

Coming up next was something we had from halal section.

Salad Popiahby Amy Crispy Popiah
Accustomed to hot if not warm popiah, we were surprised that this was served chilled. It is subjective to public acceptance but I personally liked this as appetizer, something fresh and not so heavy to start off the meal.

I’ll be sure to drop by Next Food Avenue again to check out the remaining 22 stalls.
